The ODI series between India and England ended with Deepti Sharma running out Charlotte Dean at the non-striker’s end. The tailender was way out of her crease before Deepti had completed the 4th delivery of the 44th over and as a result, Charlotte had to walk back. The wicket saw India winning the game by a margin of 16 runs and whitewashing the Three Lions for the first time at their home.
Deepti’s decision to run out Charlotte didn’t go down well with England cricketers, who took to social media to criticise Team India. They got an apt response from the Indian cricketers and the fans. But there was one England cricketer who threw his weight behind Team India.
Hales schooled Sam Billings and reminded him about the rules of the game. As per the rules, a batter has to stay inside the crease till the ball is bowled. “It shouldn’t be difficult for the non-striker to stay in their crease til the ball has left the hand,” Hales wrote.
The Twitterti is heaping praise on the England opener for taking a stand against his teammates and some users even asked for a lifetime IPL contract for the opening batsman. Hales was part of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2022 but he pulled out of the season.
The win in the 3rd ODI saw Team India giving a winning farewell to Jhulan Goswami. The India legend had announced her retirement from the game before the start of the series and confirmed that she would play her last game at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Renuka Singh was bestowed with the Player of the Match award for her four-for. The right-arm pacer bowled a spell of 10-1-29-4. With the bat, Deepti did the job and scored an unbeaten 68 to propel India to a total of 169. Smriti Mandhana also scored a half-century.
