Indian pace bowling legend Jhulan Goswami confirms retirement; Lord’s ODI set to be her final match for India

A glorious era of Indian cricket is set to end on Saturday (September 24) as Indian pace bowling legend Jhulan Goswami will hang her boots up after the third and final ODI of the ongoing series against England. Her final appearance in international cricket will be the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
The legendary pacer confirmed widespread speculation and revealed that she is bringing the curtain down on her career with the Indian women’s cricket team at the end of the ongoing series. India go into the Lord’s ODI having sealed a historic series win after winning both the first and second ODI of the series.
The 39-year-old confirmed that she will no longer play international cricket but has kept the doors open for playing the inaugural season of the Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) in 2023. Jhulan asserted that she is only retiring from international cricket at the moment.
“I haven’t decided. So far the BCCI hasn’t officially come out with an official announcement, let that come first then I will decide. Right now, I am retiring from international cricket,” said Jhulan in a press conference while being asked about her intention to play the WIPL.
Jhulan vividly remembered her two-decade-long career for the national team and called receiving the cap for the national team and bowling her first over for India as the best moment of her career. “My best memory was when I received my international cap and then bowling the first over. In 1997 I saw the first match as a ball girl and then I dreamt about representing my country,” said Jhulan.
Jhulan made her debut for the national team in 2002 and since then played a total of 203 WODIs, 68 WT20Is, and 12 Women Test matches. She quits the game as the highest wicket-taker in Women’s ODI history.
