Hina Khan, who made her acting debut back in 2009 with Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, has sure come a long way. However, it truly wasn’t as easy for the actor and she’s had her own shares of ups and downs when it comes to carving a space for herself.
She went on to play the role of Akshara until 2016 and then came Bigg Boss 11 as well as Khatron Ke Khiladi 8, both reality shows that not only helped her stand out, but she also managed to make it as the first runners up. Following that, she has done a couple of films, made it to the Cannes Film Festival twice, and of course, there’s no stopping her just yet.
In August 2020, Hina had opened up about her journey as an actor and how it all started. She spoke to Humans of Bombay and narrated her story about her family, how she auditioned for the first time, and more.
She said, “I come from an orthodox Kashmiri family where becoming an actor was never an option. My parents were even hesitant to send me to Delhi for college but somehow, I convinced Papa. So, when a friend suggested auditioning for a serial, I said no.”
She continued, “Upon insistence, I gave it a go and the casting directors loved me! The next day, I was selected for the lead role! I moved to Bombay without telling my parents; I was 20. The production people helped me find a place. It took me weeks to tell Papa. He was livid. Mom’s friends & relatives cut ties with us. But by then, my serial had gained popularity. After weeks of cajoling, Papa said, ‘you can continue only if you complete your studies.’ Then, my parents moved to Mumbai.”
She also spoke about shooting all night and studying during breaks, flying to Delhi for exams, and how there was a lot of family stress. She added how she asked her mom to not bother but it was not easy and they used to argue a lot.
Up ahead, she is gearing up for yet another web show, where she will be donning the uniform – Seven One.
