‘Am I slipping in my game?’: Varun Dhawan reveals his thoughts on Karan Johar not casting him in his films after SOTY

Another week, another episode of Koffee With Karan Season 7! The latest episode of Karan Johar’s chat show brought together Anil Kapoor and Varun Dhawan, who have worked together in Jugjugg Jeeyo alongside Kiara Advani and Neetu Kapoor. The episode, a steamy one, had the two actors shelling out relationship tips amongst other things.
During the episode, Karan Johar asked Varun if it bothers him when he casts other actors in his films, and not him. It is to be noted that Varun was launched in Karan Johar’s film Student of the Year in 2012. The film also starred Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra in lead roles.
Varun, who decided to bare his heart out, explained to Karan that it did lead him to question himself. “It definitely made me think, am I slipping in my game? Have I not created that right body of work or image as an actor for Karan to consider me in his films?” he said.
Varun explained that he has never felt envious of anyone else, but Karan not casting him in his recent films did make him question his abilities. “For me, it is more in terms of introspection of my competencies. It never leads to me feeling envious or defeated by your selection. I take it as an opportunity to analyze where I can possibly improve,” added the Badlapur actor.
In the same episode, Varun revealed that if there’s one actor who he feels slightly competitive with in a friendly manner, then it’s Alia Bhatt. He added that even Alia feels the same and the duo often talks about it.
Next up, Varun will be a part of films like Bhediya and Bawaal among others. The actor continues to share BTS moments from his upcoming films on his Instagram account, where he is followed by millions.
