Hardik & Bhuvneshwar to miss South Africa T20Is, Arshdeep rested for Australia series; Shami returns

After naming India’s squads for the 2022 T20 World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have also announced the squads for the twin three-match T20I series against South Africa. These two assignments will mark the return of Mohammed Shami to the T20 fold after not playing a single game in the shortest format for the Men in Blue since the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Shami and Deepak Chahar who have been named as the standbys for the T20 World cup squad are both part of the main team for the two series. Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar will sit out the three-match series against South Africa while Arshdeep Singh is not part of the side to face Australia.
The BCCI confirmed that Hardik, Bhuvneshwar, and Arshdeep will travel to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) during the series to do some conditioning-related work.
India will face Australia in three T20Is on September 20, 23, and 25 in Mohali, Nagpur, and Hyderabad. After which the South Africa will arrive to play three games in the shortest format on September 28, October 2 and 4 in Thiruvnanthapuram, Guwahati, and Indore respetively. The Proteas will also play three ODIs in India for which the squad is expected to be announced on a later date with the T20 World Cup bound squad to be missing.
