Former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry killed in road accident

Former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Pallonji Mistry, 54, was killed in a road accident in Maharashtra’s Palghar on Sunday. He is survived by his wife and two children.
The tragedy occurred when his Mercedes, in which he was returning to Mumbai from Ahmedabad, “banged into a divider” near Charoti in Palghar on Sunday. The accident took place on a bridge on the Surya river.
Two other persons injured in the mishap have been hospitalised, PTI reported quoting Palghar SP.
“The accident took place around 3.15 pm, when Mistry was travelling to Mumbai from Ahmedabad. The accident took place on a bridge over the Surya river. It seems an accident,” PTI quoted a police official as saying.
Mistry, an Irish-Indian businessman and the sixth chairman of Tata Sons, was ousted in 2016 after a bitter court battle. He shot to prominence after when was chosen to lead one of the oldest business groups in India after Ratan Tata stepped down in 2012.
Shapoorji Palonji Group, the largest shareholder in Tata Sons, holding a 18.4% stake in the company, nominated Mistry to lead the conglomerate in 2012.
