The duo of Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli put in an exemplary performance with the bat against Hong Kong on Wednesday, orchestrating a partnership of 98 runs for the 3rd wicket. Of the two, it was Suryakumar who played the role of an aggressor, smashing boundaries all across the park
In the final over of the Indian batting, Suryakumar smashed 4 sixes to Hong Kong’s Haroon Arshad. For a moment, it looked like Surya could even bag 6 sixes in the over, but Haroon ensured that such a scenario doesn’t unfold.
In a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Suryakumar Yadav was asked by Virat Kohli if he thought of going for 6 sixes in the 20th over. The Mumbai batter agreed that he did think about the feat but couldn’t implement it. Here’s how the conversation went:
Virat Kohli: Surya you hit 4 Sixes in last over, Do you feel like you could have targeted 6 Sixes & become 2nd Indian to do that?
Suryakumar Yadav: I was trying my best but let’s not get past Yuvi Paa.
Virat Kohli: Yeah, that was magical over, especially against Broad.
During the chat, Surya also told Virat how important it was for him to have his company in the middle. Yadav admitted that it was because of the presence of a reliable batter like Kohli that he was able to unleash himself fully.
“I knew I needed you (Virat Kohli) there that’s why I told you. You bat at one end, because I’ve seen you many times when you play 30 or 35 balls & after that you bat at 200 or 250 strike rate. It was important for me you stay there so that I bat freely,” Surya said in the video.
Courtesy of the duo’s partnership, India put a target of 193 runs for Hong Kong to chase. The score was too much for the opposition team who could only muster up 152 runs in 20 overs.
