‘Yogi model of action’: Assam Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind chief slams Himanta Sarma-led govt over action against madrassas

The Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind  lashed out at the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led Assam government as authorities in the state razed yet another madrassa over terror links. This is the third madrasa to be razed after the arrest of 37 people including the Imam and madrasa teachers on charges of being linked to terror outfits Al Qaida in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).
“Brotherhood and love for the nation is taught inside Madrassa. Hindu-Muslim brotherhood is also taught…No religion teaches bad things. If few are found guilty of crimes, you punish them. This is injustice if you break them. This bulldozer action is Yogi model of action. This is not your work,” Jamiat state chief Baduruddin Ajmal said .
Authorities in Assam demolished a madrassa in the Bongaigaon district today after allegations that its premises were being used for terror activities. Several bulldozers were seen conducting the demolition of the Markazul MaArif Quariayana Madrasa located at Kabaitary Part-IV village.
Calling it an “injustice”, Ajmal also drew a parallel with demolition drives undertaken in Uttar Pradesh. “This needs to be stopped. Even if they are making illegal madrassas, doesn’t mean you will evict them. Assam government is not able to make schools. Bulldozer is Yogi Adityanath’s job, now even he has stopped. I am clear that if you find anyone doing wrong you catch him and give him punishment. There is politics involved in this 100%. If Muslims don’t vote for BJP they will not win. I sense they are trying to scare Muslims (sic),” he opined.
The Goalpara District police had conducted a search operation and seized several key documents including one leaflet of terror group ABT in Bengali and one logo suspected to be of AQIS yesterday. Last night, 224 students were evacuated from the two-storied building and another structure that housed the teaching and assistant staff of the madrassa. There were reports that some militants disguised as religious teachers had sneaked into the state and silently gone ahead with their subversive and anti-state activities.
