I don’t think that is right: Kapil Dev dismisses talk of Asia Cup being Virat Kohli’s ‘last chance’

A couple of months after questioning Virat Kohli’s place in India’s T20 World Cup squad following his poor run of form, Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev has dismissed talk of the ongoing 2022 Asia Cup being Virat Kohli’s ‘last chance’ to regain form and book his place on the flight to Australia.
Kohli has struggled for form recently having not scored a century in international cricket for almost three years. The ex-Indian skipper had a campaign to forget in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as he scored just 341 runs in 16 matches and was dismissed on a golden duck three times. His struggles continued on the tour to England as Kohli failed to score a single half-century across the three formats.
Ahead of India’s Asia Cup opener, Kapil has shared an important message for Virat Kohli and stated that he should stop taking breaks and play as many matches as possible. The 1983 World Cup-winning skipper asserted that once he starts scoring runs again, his through process will also change.
“I don’t think so. We shouldn’t even think about it. if we use terms like last audition, or last chance, I don’t think that is right. I just want to say to him that he should keep on playing matches. Sometimes, you shouldn’t be taking too many breaks. He is a professional and he should not have that problem. I personally feel he should play as many matches and as many matches he can play. That’s more important. When you start scoring runs, then the thought process changes,” said Kapil on Youtube channel Uncut.
India will begin their campaign in the continental showpiece event on Sunday (August 28) against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium. India and Pakistan are in Group B alongside Hong Kong.
