After engaging in a war of words on Twitter with his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said the national capital should be compared to ‘New York and Tokyo instead of Shillong and Guwahati.’ Sarma further said that he doesn’t have resources as good as Delhi but he runs 40,000 schools compared to Kejriwal running 1200.
“Delhi has been the capital of India since the time of Mughals. He should compare Delhi with New York & Tokyo instead of comparing it with Guwahati & Shillong. I do not have resources as good as Delhi but he runs 1,200 schools and I run 40,000 schools,” the Assam CM said.
Notably, the argument between the two CMs began last week after Kejriwal opined that the closing of schools was not a solution while sharing a link to a news report claiming the ‘closure’ of some schools in Assam. The debate continued on Sunday with the AAP leader repeatedly asking when he could come to see the schools of the northeastern state.
“Kejriwal ji wanted me to invite him to Assam. I have already invited Manish Sisodia, he must have got a notice from the Court as well. He (Arvind Kejriwal) should also come if he wants,” Sarma said in response. The Assam CM was referring to a summon issued by an Assam court to Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia in connection with a defamation case. Sarma had filed a defamation suit against Sisodia in July u/s 499, 500 and 501 of the Indian Penal Code over his allegations of corruption at the behest of the Assam government in distributing contracts for the supply of PPE kits in 2020.
On the other hand, Kejriwal, on Saturday, repeated his question asking ‘if the government schools in the northeastern state are not up to the mark.’ “You didn’t answer my question – “When should I come to see your government school?” It doesn’t matter if the school is not good. Will do it right together,” the AAP chief tweeted.
