India’s richest person and Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani has been accorded a ‘Z’ category VIP security cover of CRPF commandos by the central government. The security cover under the central list has been given to the Adani Group chairman on the basis of a threat perception report prepared by central security agencies.
According to official sources quoted by PTI, the billionaire’s all-India cover will be on a “payment basis” and is expected to cost about Rs 15-20 lakh per month. The VIP security wing of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been asked to take over the job by the Home Ministry.
The squad is now with the protectee, sources said.
Another billionaire industrialist and the country’s second richest person – Reliance Industries Limited Chairman Mukesh Ambani was granted a ‘Z+’ category cover of CRPF commandos by the Union government in 2013. A few years later, ‘Y ‘ category CRPF cover was given to his wife Nita Ambani in 2016.
Late last month, the Supreme Court gave a go ahead to the Centre to continue with the security cover provided to the Ambanis in Mumbai taking note of the fact that the family was paying for the security cover.
The order by a bench comprising Chief Justice NV Ramana and Justices Krishna Murari and Hima Kohli was in response to the Centre’s appeal challenging the Tripura High Court’s direction on a PIL challenging the grant of security cover to the industrialist and his family members.
