Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka lead Azadi Gaurav Yatra in Delhi on Independence Day

As India marked its 76th Independence Day , the Congress undertook a ‘Azadi Gaurav Yatra’ in the national capital. Top party leaders including Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, MP Anand Sharma and senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad participated in the march.
“We should remember our martyrs, citizens and leaders who sacrificed their lives for independence and due to whom we’re independent today. Together we’ll be ready to take a decision for our country and take it forward,” said Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, extending Independence Day greetings.
Visuals shared online by news agency ANI also showed Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi and other leaders of the party reach Gandhi Smriti and pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, as part of ‘Azadi Gaurav Yatra’. The leaders also took a pledge there to serve the country as members of the party and work towards the unity of the nation.
Meanwhile, Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi lashed out at the Narendra Modi-led Central government, accusing it of distorting historical facts for political gains. She also blamed that the present self-centred government is adamant about proving insignificant the great sacrifices of freedom fighters and glorious achievements of the country and this could not be accepted.
“Congress will oppose the wrong statements for political benefits and any attempt to question great national leaders like Gandhi-Nehru-Patel-Azad on the basis of incorrect facts,” she asserted.
The remarks came soon after the BJP released an over seven-minute long video and indirectly blamed Jawaharlal Nehru and Congress leaders for bowing to the demand of a separate nation raised by the Muslim League led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah, instead of opposing it.
