Indian athletes Eldhose Paul and Abdulla Aboubacker Narangolintevid may not have been the most famous names going into the Commonwealth games 2022, but now they have etched their names in history. In the men’s triple jump event, both athletes finished with a medal each, becoming the first Indians to earn a Commonwealth Games medal in men’s triple jump .
While Eldhose Paul created history to become the first Indian gold medallist at the event, Aboubacker also became the first Indian athlete to pick up the silver medal at the event. The two Indian triple jumpers were the only ones to breach the 17 m mark at the event. While Paul recorded a best jump of 17.03 m, Aboubacker’s best jump was of 17.02 metres.
In fact, another Indian triple jumper Praveen Chitravel just missed out on a podium finish as he ended up in fourth position.
