Air Asia starts flights from UP; will connect Lucknow to 6 Indian cities

Budget carrier Air Asia started five flights from Lucknow to different parts of the country  The airline has started five daily flights from Uttar Pradesh’s capital to Delhi, Goa, and Bengaluru and will also begin three additional flights to Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata from September.
UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath flagged off the inaugural flight from Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport.
Union Minister for civil aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia lauded UP CM Adityanath for his vision in improving air connectivity in the state.
“To develop UP according to its potential, as many as 63 new routes have been added recently which will also be increased to 108 routes,” the aviation minister added.
UP CM Adityanath said, “The rapid expansion in air connectivity is a testament to PM Modi’s commitment where he said that even those who wear ‘Hawaii slippers’ should be able to travel in flights. Before 2017, UP had only two properly functioning airports, Lucknow and Varanasi while the ones in Gorakhpur and Agra were partially functional. Now air services have been extended to nine airports.”
He further added that over the past few years connectivity to Lucknow has improved from 15 cities to 30 cities. The government has prioritised the creation of expressways, air services and other means of travelling.
Air Asia, an alliance between Tata Sons and Air Asia Aviation Group, is setting up operations in UP for the first time. Initially, the airline will connect Lucknow to Goa, Delhi and Bengaluru. From September 1, the airline will start more flights connecting the state to Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata.
