People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, on Friday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will make India a religious country and change the tricolour to a saffron flag. Hitting out at the former ally, with whose support her party had formed a government in Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti alleged that the BJP will change the flag of the country just the way it ‘snatched away’ the Constitution and the flag of Jammu and Kashmir.
“In time to come, BJP will finish off even the Constitution and the foundations of secularism on which this country stands. They’ll make this a religious country. They’ll change the Tiranga, which you are hoisting proudly, and bring in a saffron flag,” Mufti said, news agency ANI quoted.
“They’ll change the flag of this nation just like they snatched away Constitution and flag of J&K,” Mufti said, adding that her party has vowed that it will get the flag and Constitution of J&K back. “We’ll also force them to resolve the issue of Kashmir for which lakhs of people sacrificed themselves,” Mufti added.
J&K leaders mock Har ghar Tiranga campaign
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha, on Friday said that the Union Territory has come a long way in terms of social security schemes, e-governance or start-ups as there us a fresh sense of faith among people.
“Be it the saturation of social security schemes, e-governance or start-ups, J&K has come a long way. There is a fresh sense of faith among people across the country. In the past seven months alone, more than a crore tourists have visited J&K,” Sinha said.
Mufti’s comments may be viewed on the backdrop of the ongoing ‘Har ghar Tiranga‘ campaign. J&K leaders such as National Conference (NC) leader Farooq Abdullah have slammed the calls saying they (BJP) should put the tiranga at their homes.
