The Indian cricket team, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, has a new approach towards T20 cricket. Unlike previous occasions, the players look to maintain an attacking approach even if they lose wickets at the top early. Hardik Pandya summed up that approach in a brilliant manner.
The India all-rounder has been a revelation himself since coming back to the national setup. Although Hardik was a part of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2021 too, his impact was nowhere near to what it is now.
Having restarted bowling, the Surat-born cricketer has become a more valuable player for the Indian team than he was last year.
“The last World Cup was very different than this one, but the process has remained the same. I have maintained a balance in my life now, where if I am performing I will be happy, even if I am not, I will be happy. With that you won’t be overconfident while you perform well and won’t be too demotivated when the bad slump comes along. That balance is really important,” Hardik said in a chat with journalist Vimal Kumar.
Summing up the mindset of the current team, Hardik said that the intent now is to put big runs on the board even in a case where the team has lost wickets upfront.
“You gain confidence when you see players performing with a new approach, the way with which pressure is being put on opposition bowlers. They might be thinking that even if new-look India are 10-3, they will be looking to score 190 rather than play out the 20 overs. Because of that attitude, this team is looking more and more dangerous,” he explained.
The Indian team is looking to live by the same mindset in the ongoing T20I series against West Indies which India are presently leading 2-1.
