Congress MP Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the BJP-led Central government for operating under the ‘blindfold of ego’. The remarks came soon after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman took on the issue of rising prices – as flagged by the opposition – and asserted that there was no question of India getting into stagflation or recession.
“Engrossed in celebrating amritkaal, the BJP government said in the house that there is no inflation in the country. Well, how will they see inflation? With their eyes covered by a blindfold of ego, selling the country’s property in ‘Free Fund’ to mitron,” Gandhi alleged today, sharing a graphic.
Soon after the FM’s address, the Congress had said that Sitharaman’s reply to the debate in the Lok Sabha on price rise was nothing but a “zero” and expectedly, a denial that a problem exists.
In a Facebook post in Hindi a day after the debate on price rise in the Lok Sabha, Gandhi had that said the Congress unsuccessfully tried to get the government to answer the questions of the people during the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament. He cited the suspension of Opposition MPs and the subsequent adjournments and protests to underscore his point.
“Yesterday when the discussion did take place, the government clearly said that ‘there is no problem like ‘mehngai’ (inflation)!
“The country is battling an epidemic of unemployment, crores of families are left with no means of stable income. But the government is spending billions of rupees just to polish the image of an ‘arrogant king’,” Gandhi said, attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Congress, he added, was with the people of the country. “We have to fight with every decree of the dictator, every attempt to suppress the voice of the people. “For you, the Congress party and myself have been fighting, and will continue to fight. You know very well which issues need to be discussed in the country today because every wrong policy of the government is affecting your life,” he said.
