West Bengal Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari paid a visit to Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi and discussed various issues from the SSC scam to the CAA draft. “A lot of things were discussed, not everything can be disclosed as I’m a disciplinary soldier of BJP. But I had 2 main agendas – HM assured me of taking an action to root out the SSC recruitment scam and to release the CAA draft after the COVID precaution dose exercise,” Adhikari said. The BJP leader stressed that the SSC scam in West Bengal is a ‘big one with the involvement of around 80-90 lakh unemployed educated youth.’ “I gave HM all data on every SSC recruitment scam that happened after independence… scam in WB is a big one with the involvement of around 80-90 lakh unemployed educated youth…& all those who fled from Bangladesh to WB should be given equal citizenship as per CAA,” the BJP leader added.
Notably, former WB Minister Partha Mukerjee, who is at the centre of the multi-crore teaching recruitment scam in the state, was arrested by the ED after a raid by the central agency recovered Rs 50 crore cash from two homes belonging to his close aide Arpita Mukerjee earlier this week.
A day after the ED seized Rs 50 crore in cash, Parth Chatterjee claimed that the money doesn’t belong to him. When asked who is behind the teacher recruitment scam, the former minister said, “When the time comes, you will know… the money does not belong to me.”
On the other hand, BJP accused WB CM Mamata Banerjee to be the main figure behind the multi-crore SSC scam in the state. “This govt is corrupt. We are sure the money recovered from Partha Chatterjee is not just his but whole government’s. CM Banerjee will have to accept this,” BJP leader Agnimitra Paul said yesterday.
