PM Modi’s ‘Yuva Shakti’ comment after Jeremy Lalrinnunga’s historic gold medal at CWG 2022 goes viral

Jeremy Lalrinnunga created history by winning the gold medal at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG) on Sunday (July 31). The 19-year-old stunned the world with a stunning combined lift of 300 KG which beat his nearest competitor by 7 KG.
In the snatch, Jeremy recorded a lift of 140 KG and followed it by lifting 160 KG in the clean and jerk. What made the 19-year-old’s victory even more remarkable was the fact he was visibly dealing with an injury and in severe pain after the end of the contest.
By virtue of his win, Jeremy has become India’s fifth medalist in the Birmingham games and the second person to win a gold. All of India’s medals in the event so far have come in weightlifting. Tokyo Olympics medalist Mirabai Chanu also won the gold while Sanket Sargar and Bindyarani Devi took home the silver. Gururaja Poojary won his second successive medal in the CWG after taking the bronze on Saturday (July 30).
Following Jeremy’s victory, Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi hailed his victory and his special tweet for the youngster went viral all across social media. Modi called the 2018 Youth Olympics gold medalist’s victory as ‘Yuva Shakti’ creating history for the nation.
“Our Yuva Shakti is creating history! Congratulations to @raltejeremy, who has won a Gold in his very first CWG and has set a phenomenal CWG record as well. At a young age he’s brought immense pride and glory. Best wishes to him for his future endeavours,” wrote Modi on Twitter.
Jeremy had earlier also won the gold medal at the 2021 Commonwealth championships in Tashkent. His snatch lift of 140KG helped him set a new all-time CWG record. Jeremy is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the country and one who could bring Olympics glory home.
