Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra appealed to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to give a chance to Opposition on Monday when the House will meet so that they can ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apologize over Gujarat BJP MLA allegedly raping a woman.
“Lady raped & confined by BJP Guj Minister Arjunsinh for 5 yrs. Expecting Hon’ble @ombirlakota to hand mic to Oppn as SOON as he enters LS on Monday so we can ask PMji to Maafi Maango. Equality before law, Sir!” Moitra tweeted.
She further took a dig at Union minister Smriti Irani for being silent on the issue by taking reference to her popular television show ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’, saying, “Ominous silence from Drama Bahu brigade.”
Moitra’s jibe comes after chaos in the Parliament on Thursday when Union Minister Smriti Irani raised the issue of Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s ‘rashtrapatni’ remark for President Droupadi Murmu and sought an apology from the party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi.
The noisy protests over Chowdhury’s remark triggered after a face-off between Sonia Gandhi and Smriti Irani in the Lok Sabha chamber, prompting the BJP and Congress to hurl accusations of “intimidation” and “heckling” at each other.
Earlier on Friday, the TMC targeted the Centre over the issue of women safety citing the case of Arjunsinh Chauhan who allegedly raped a woman and confined her for five years.
“Dear PM @narendramodi and @AmitShah. Look forward to seeing you both Monday morning #ParliamentMonsoonSession. Since you are ever so eager to raise issues of Oppn disrespecting #women All of us will be waiting. 11am Monday. See you then. P.S. If 56 inch can’t come, send #2,” tweeted TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien.
The TMC, in its official Twitter handle, also targeted PM Modi over the issue of women safety referring to the same allegations. “PM @narendramodi, where are your tall claims of successfully ensuring women’s safety, now? This is happening in your own home turf!” the party tweeted.
