Mallika Sherawat says filmmakers didn’t consider her for serious roles: ‘Wanted to play different parts’

Mallika Sherawat has made a strong comeback on the silver screen with Rajat Kapoor’s RK/RKay as she has been receiving immense praise for her portrayal of Gulabo. Both critics and audience are thrilled to see Mallika in an all-new avatar.
Although Mallika has been in the industry for around 20 years and has featured in an array of films of different genres, she is largely remembered for her glamorous roles. However, with RK/RKay, Mallika has made her intention clear that she wants to shed the image that people have had of her for so many years.
In an exclusive interview with Times Now Digital, Mallika revealed that she always wanted to play different kinds of parts but filmmakers never came to her with serious characters.
“I wish that more filmmakers write parts like Gulabo and that more filmmakers cast me in those roles. It is not like I never wanted to play serious parts, the filmmakers never offered me one. I have always wanted to play different parts. I have done films like Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Welcome, and Dasavatharam,” Mallika told us.
She continued, “But I feel OTT is a game changer as far as actresses are concerned. It is a very exciting space and all sorts of parts are being written for women. The best part is that the audience is accepting actresses in those parts. Take Delhi Crime for example.”
Speaking about her experience of working with Rajat, who has written and directed RK/RKay, she said, “I am a huge fan of Rajat Kapoor. Ankhon Dekhi is everyone’s favourite. I always wanted to work with him but it only took him 20 years to cast me in his film! It is every actor’s dream to work with him”
Up next, Mallika will be seen in a web series titled Bouncer Nagar which is being helmed by Mirzapur fame Gurmeet Singh.
