BJP chief JP Nadda urges UPA to support Jagdeep Dhankar as Vice President candidate

A day after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) announced Jagdeep Dhankar as its Vice President candidate, BJP chief JP Nadda  urged all political parties to support him.
He especially asked the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) to support Dhankar in his bid as the Vice Presidential candidate.
In a video message, Nadda said, “For Vice-Presidential polls, we have nominated a ‘Kisan Putra’, a person from a humble background, who also served the country in different capacities for three decades. I urge all political parties, especially UPA allies to support Jagdeep Dhankar.”
Earlier in the day, the BJP chief heaped praise on Dhankar calling him the “governor of the people”.
“When Jagdeep Dhankhar became the governor of West Bengal in 2019, he was called the governor of the people, such was his popularity. Yesterday, the Parliamentary Board after considering several names, nominated a farmer’s son for the post of Vice President. It is a matter of pride for all of us,” he said.
Farmer groups from different regions felicitated party president JP Nadda and lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for nominating Jagdeep Dhankar’s name for Vice President post.
BJP leaders said farmers, especially from Haryana, Rajasthan and western Uttar Pradesh, met Nadda to express their happiness at the choice of Dhankhar, a Jat leader from Rajasthan who is currently West Bengal governor. A number of farmers were from the Jat community.
BJP ‘kisan morcha’ (farmers’ wing) head Rajkumar Chahar said farmers wanted to convey their thanks to the party leadership for elevating Dhankhar, whose win in the vice presidential poll is all but certain due to the party’s strong majority in the electoral college.
