Singapore Open 500 Final: How has PV Sindhu fared against Zhi Yi Wang?

Once again showing her mettle at the grand stage, PV Sindhu outlasted Japan’s Saena Kawakami to march into the Singapore Open 500 final. Up next for her is the Chinese Zhi Yi Wang.
Sindhu showed utter dominance over Kawakami, securing a 21-15, 21-7 win over the Japanese on Saturday. Just one step away from securing his first Super 500 title of the year, Sindhu faces a tricky opponent in the form of Wang.
Zhi herself looked quite impressive as she locked horns with Aya Ohori in her semi-final. The match turned out to be a convincing victory for the Chinese, winning 2-0 (21-14, 21-14).
Sindhu had last squared-off against Wang in the All England Badminton Championship. The Indian had secured a thumping victory over the Chinese, winning her contest 21-18 and 21-13. In fact, it was the first time that Sindhu and Wang had squared-off against one another on the badminton court.
It has to be noted that Wang Zi Yi is the Asian champion and is widely considered as one of the fastest rising young shuttlers in the world. Wang wasn’t as experienced when she had met Sindhu the first time but has looked like a completely different player on this tour.
Being the Asian champion, Wang is considered by many as the favourite. Since she and Sindhu have only squared off once before, not much can be said over who has the advantage over the other.
Sindhu would be hopeful of continuing her 100 percent record against Wang in the final and head into the Commonwealth Games as the Singapore Open champion.
