Ranbir Kapoor calls working on Shamshera a ‘nightmare’, says late father Rishi Kapoor had warned him

Ranbir Kapoor is all set to grace the big screen after a considerable gap of four years. The superstar will make a comeback in style as he will be seen in a double role in Karan Malhotra’s Shamshera.
Currently on a promotional spree for the masala entertainer, Ranbir in an interview spoke about his experience of working on the film and about his collaboration with Karan, who worked with late Rishi Kapoor in Hrithik Roshan-starrer Agneepath.
Ranbir revealed that his father had cautioned him that Karan is not easy to please as a director. “He had warned me, ‘you’ll suffer, Karan is a hard taskmaster, he demands multiple takes, so, be ready’,” Ranbir told Bollywood Hungama.
Further, he said that making Shamshera has been a nightmare as it was a physically demanding script for the entire team including leading lady Vaani Kapoor.
“When we see the film, it’s all worth it. However, working on this film was a nightmare. It was the most physically draining film for me, Vaani and all of us. We were covered in dust. We were shooting in peak summer in Mumbai wearing woollen clothes. I also had a thick beard. We were supposed to do action. So, it was really hard,” Ranbir said.
The 39-year-old actor had elaborated about his physical transformation in a video shared by Yash Raj Films. Speaking about Karan’s vision for his character, Ranbir recounted, “Director Karan Malhotra wanted a worker’s body. This was physically tough to do. I am a thin guy. So to lose weight is very easy for me, but to put on muscle is harder. It’s very complicated.”
Shamshera, a period drama, features Sanjay Dutt in a villainous avatar. Backed by Aditya Chopra, it will hit the screens on July 22.
