Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel appealed to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders to support “their old friend Yashwant Sinha” in the upcoming Presidential Elections 2022.
When asked about BJP’s appeal to support NDA Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu, the Chhattisgarh CM said, “If the BJP is listening to its inner voice, their old friend (Yashwant Sinha) is the candidate of the Opposition. All BJP leaders should support their old friends.”
Sinha, a former BJP leader, has been fielded by the Opposition parties as their joint candidate in the presidential elections.
The Election Commission of India has scheduled the date for the 16th Presidential election as July 18 and the counting of votes would be held on July 21, if needed.
A total of 4,809 electors comprising MPs and MLAs will vote to elect Ram Nath Kovind’s successor. Kovind’s tenure will be ending on July 24 following which the new President will be sworn in on July 25.
