uheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar, said that he is waiting for ‘talaq’ (divorce) from Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav’s side. He, further added that he will not take any immediate step to break ties with the Samajwadi Party (SP).
“I will not initiate any step to end alliance with the SP. I will wait to be divorced by Akhilesh Yadav,” Rajbhor said, news agency PTI reported. Stressing that he is ‘still with the Samajwadi Party’, Rajbhor said that he will not continue with SP if Akhilesh Yadav does not want it.
Akhilesh Yadav might have forgotten about me, so he didn’t call me,” the SBSP chief said. Rajbhor’s SBSP has six MLAs in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. The differences between Rajbhor and Yadav came to the forefront when the SP candidates faced defeat in the Rampur and Azamgarh by-polls last month. The SBSP chief had taunted Yadav and said that he should come out of his air-conditioned room to seek support from the masses.
An influential OBC leader, Rajbhor had recently said that the SP and BSP should join hands to counter the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the forthcoming 2024 general elections. Yadav had, however, rubbished the claims and said that the “Samajwadi Party doesn’t need anyone’s advice.”
In the recently concluded Assembly elections, the SBSP contested 19 seats under the Samajwadi Party-led coalition and managed to win six seats. In 2017, the SBSP had contested the polls with BJP and managed to win four seats. Rajbhor had, however, broken the alliance after forming the government.
