Just a year after joining Manchester United from Juventus, Cristiano Ronaldo seems to be eager to move on. Be it the Red Devils’ failure to secure Champions League football or their lack of signings in the summer transfer window, Ronaldo is said to be disappointed with how his time at Old Trafford has gone by.
Over the last week or so, Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes reportedly held talks with Bayern Munich and Chelsea over his client’s potential transfer this summer. However, certain reports now claim that Mendes has now also gone on to meet Joan Laporta, the president of FC Barcelona.
It has to be understood that Barcelona are the biggest rivals of Real Madrid, the club that Ronaldo spent 9 years with. On a personal level, Ronaldo’s biggest rival Lionel Messi also played most of his club football with Barcelona.
Hence, the prospect of Ronaldo potentially Barcelona has gained the interest of football fans all across the globe. Even as a rumour, the move is a pretty controversial one, yet Mendes and Laporta have allegedly discussed it.
The news of Laporta meeting Ronaldo over a potential Ronaldo transfer was first reported by Spanish publication AS. Ronaldo isn’t Laporta’s only client that has been linked with a switch to the Catalan outfit.
Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva, who is also represented by Mendes, has been linked with a move to Barca for a long time. But, as per the Spanish publication, Ronaldo’s name was discussed during the Laporta-Mendes meeting.
It has also been reported that Barca were keen to rope in Ronaldo last summer but their tricky financial situation saw them decide against making a move for the talismanic forward.
Other than Barca, Ronaldo has been strongly linked with a move to Bayern Munich and Chelsea. He is also said to have told Manchester United that he wants to leave this summer and wants to be allowed to do so if a reasonable offer comes.
