Suspended Delhi BJP spokesperson Naveen Kumar Jindal on Wednesday morning alleged that he and his family received death threats hours after a Hindu tailor in Rajasthan’s Udaipur was men by Muslim men,
Jindal came under sharp criticism and was suspended by the BJP last month over his controversial tweets on Prophet Mohammad.
“This morning around 6:43 am I received three emails, in which a video of brother Kanhaiya Lal’s throat being slit were attached. They threatened me and my family with such threats. I have informed the police,” Jindal tweeted in Hindi.
Two men with a cleaver killed Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur city’s Dhan Mandi area and uploaded videos online that said they are avenging an insult to Islam. The accused went to Kanhaiya Lal’s shop posing as customers and when he was taking the measurements, one of them attacked him with a cleaver. They later posted the video of the brutal murder on social media.
The accused, identified as Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad, have been arrested for the murder. In another video clip, Akhtari said that they had beheaded the man and threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying their knife will get him as well.
The killing of the tailor has triggered tension and sporadic incidents of violence in Rajasthan’s Udaipur, prompting authorities to ban large gatherings across the Congress-ruled state for a month and snapping mobile internet for 24 hours.
Kanhaiya Lal extended support on social media to suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, whose inflammatory comments on Prophet Mohammed had sparked a political furore and also widespread condemnation from several Muslim countries.
