Janhit Mein Jaari hero Anud Singh Dhaka opens up on struggles in Bollywood: ‘ It took me 10 years to finally get a break in Mumbai’

Nushrratt Bharuccha starrer Janhit Mein Jaari released in theatres across India a few days back. The film, which sees Nushrratt take up the interesting character of Manokamna, who becomes a condom saleswoman from Chanderi, also has Anud Singh Dhaka who essays the role of Ranjan, the male lead in the film. The film has had limited success at the box office, showing steady growth amongst a targeted urban audience.
The actor debuts as a lead with an unconventional film that seems to be on a warpath towards breaking social taboos related to women’s sexual health and the use of condom by the male population. However, having struggled for years to make his mark in Bollywood, Anud is not complaining. The actor believes that Janhit is a story of self-discovery and as such, that was what intrigued him to take up the project.
Now, in an exclusive interaction with Times Now Digital, Anud, who hails from Bhopal and ventured 10 years back to Mumbai to carve a niche out for himself in the industry opens up about his struggles and why he has no regrets.
Speaking about his desire to get into acting, the actor said, “Even before I forayed into the industry, I had a conversation with myself. Would I be okay if I never made it to the screen? Would I be happy if I just keep getting auditions for the rest of my life? My answer was yes.”
Elaborating upon the long running debate of nepotism in the industry and of outsiders trying to make a mark, Anud added, “The debate between nepotism and outsider and insider – I am an outsider with zero contacts. I had to find my way and I did that through various auditions, meeting casting directors, and even if I was not chosen – giving a good audition so that they would remember my name and call me back for some other parts. It has been 10 years in Mumbai and now finally I have gotten my big break. It takes a lot of effort and chappal ghisai and hungry days – but if you ask me today, it was all worth it. I came from Bhopal with an only dream of being a part of industry.”
However, Anud’s journey was not without struggles. The actor who started out as a background cast in films like late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s Chhichhore, went on to state, “I have had my share of struggles from not finding auditions, to not knowing where to stay, living in a flat with 9 people. Sab dekha hai maine bhooke pet sona, bhooke pet audition jaana. I have walked kilometres to auditions because I could not afford an autorickshaw ride. I have seen it all. I do not believe in glorifying struggle but this has been my journey and I have never been ashamed of it.”
“This is what I wanted my whole life and I never had any second thoughts,” Anud signed off.
