Amid widespread protests against the Centre’s new ‘Agnipath’ scheme, BJP leader and Union minister Giriraj Singh blamed the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for arson and violence in the state.
The BJP leader said that the opposition party will have to answer for its actions.Bihar woke up to angry protests today as the arson and demonstrations continued for the third consecutive day.
Giriraj Singh strongly supported the new recruitment scheme for the armed forces, saying that even though the youngsters will be discharged after four years, they will be skilled for getting new jobs.
The Union Minister also urged the state governments to identify non-students in the protests, which have also erupted in different parts of the country, and alleged that some political parties have been using students as shields to destroy public assets.
“Biharis are dying in RJD’s angry protests in which public properties are also being burnt. The RJD will have to answer to Bihar,” said Singh, an MP from Begusarai.
Explained: ‘Agnipath’ scheme
The ‘Agnipath’ scheme was recently launched by the government in an effort to bring a change in the recruitment process of the Armed Forces. With the new military recruitment scheme facing a backlash by Opposition, the Centre has decided to bring a change in the upper age limit for recruiting Agniveers.
Granting a one-time waiver, the Centre on June 16, 2022, announced that the Agniveer upper age limit for recruitments via Agnipath Scheme has been extended to 23 years from 21 years.
