A delegation of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs met with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and submitted a memorandum in connection with the recent incidents of violence in Tripura.
TMC has alleged that “BJP-sponsored goons” attacked its party workers in the Surma assembly constituency.
“We had a long meeting with Chief Election Commissioner. We complained to him about incidents in Tripura last night when about 70 families who’d joined TMC in the Surma assembly constituency were attacked by BJP goons. Five people were seriously injured,” ANI quoted TMC MP Saugata Roy as saying.
Giving details about the meeting, Roy said Chief Election Commissioner was very positive and said he’d already spoken with the CEO regarding this.
“He’s asked the observer to visit and give a report. All booths will be under CCTV and webcast. Six companies of central forces will be given for each assembly constituency,” the TMC leader added.
Tripura is set to vote in bypolls to four assembly segments – Agartala, Town Bardowali, Surma, and Jubarajnagar – on June 23. The Trinamool Congress, which has no electoral presence in the state, is contesting all the four seats and its candidates have started campaigning.
The six-MP TMC delegation which met the CEC comprised Saugata Roy, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Jawhar Sircar, Pratima Mondal, Luizinho Faleiro, and Nusrat Jahan Ruhi.
