Prayagraj SSP Ajay Kumar has said that if the accused do not surrender then warrants will be issued and their houses will be auctioned under relevant sections of law.
In the incident of June 10, cases have been filed under 29 serious sections and 92 people have been arrested, he said adding that the names of 40 included in the FIRs and spotted in CCTV footage are absconding.
“Posters made public showing accused throwing stones. This will help us to identify them. They could have held a peaceful protest and given us memorandums but resorted to violence. Loss of crores will be recovered from the accused,” he told ANI.
The SSP also said that the state administration is prepared for next Friday and more than 10 times the police force which was used last time has been called.
We are also holding one-on-one talks and meetings with the leaders of Madrasas and mosques.
On the arrest of Javed Ahmed, the alleged “mastermind” of the June 10 violence in Prayagraj, the SSP said a paper and two pistols were recovered from his house during the demolition drive.
The paper reads things like “reach Atala area as soon as possible, we do not trust the courts now” and it has been included in the investigation, the Prayagraj SSP said.
While the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) has said that the house was demolished as it was built against the provisions of the UP State Planning and Development Rules of 1973 and was illegal construction, the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has demanded an impartial probe into custodial torture, police excesses and demolition of houses, and punishment to the guilty at the earliest.
On Monday, JIH approached the Supreme Court seeking appropriate direction to the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure that no further demolitions are carried out without following due process of law.
