Uttar Pradesh government razed residential properties of two persons accused in the violence that broke out yesterday in Saharanpur over controversial remarks on Prophet Muhammad by now-suspended BJP leaders Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested 64 people so far and identified more than 200 others in connection with the violence. It also confirmed that it will slap the National Security Act (NSA) on all the accused.
A video surfaced on social media where a bulldozer could be seen razing down two houses, reportedly illegal properties belonging to two persons arrested in connection with yesterday’s violence in the city.
While speaking to media, Saharanpur SSP Akash Tomar said, “A joint team of Saharanpur administration, development authority, magistracy, revenue team, municipal corporation and police was made to take action on illegal properties of accused in yesterday’s incident… 64 people arrested till now, more than 200 identified.”
“Residential premises of 2 arrested accused were illegal & without permission; we’ve taken action with bulldozers. More people are being identified. There will be coordinated action on any illegal properties found… We will put NSA as well,” he added.
Notably, the state witnessed several incidents of violence, sloganeering and stone-pelting after Friday prayers, when the people began protesting against the inflammatory statements.
All this came as the row over the comments on the Prophet Muhammad by suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma blew up and led to global outrage.
