Continuing Mumbai’s rich history of producing top-quality batters, Suved Parker marked his debut in first-class cricket with a sublime double century in the quarter-final of the ongoing 2021/22 Ranji Trophy against Uttarakhand at the KSCA Ground in Alur. On the way to his memorable double ton, Parked formed an incredible partnership of 277 runs with Sarfaraz Khan.
By virtue of his knock, Parkar became only the 2nd Indian ever to score a double century on first-class debut in a knockout match. He joined legendary Mumbai batter Amol Muzumdar in the elusive list. The current head coach of the 41-time champions had achieved the feat in a pre-quarter final match between Bombay and Haryana in 1994.
Parker is also the only Mumbai player apart from Mazumdar in history to score a double century on debut in India’s premier first-class competition. Overall, Parker is the 12th Indian to achieve this feat. Earlier this season, Bihar’s Saqibul Gani had become the first Indian batter to score a triple century on debut in a clash vs Mizoram.
Taking note of Parker’s memorable debut, veteran Mumbai batter Suryakumar Yadav lavished praise on him and called it a ‘special knock.’ He also hailed Safaraz Khan for his knock as well. “Double hundred on Debut. Special knock Suved parkar. Very happy to see Sarfaraz khan continuing his Dream run,” wrote Suryakumar on Twitter.
Overall, Mumbai managed to post a huge total of 647 on the board before declaring the innings. Parker was dismissed after making 252 runs while Sarfaraz notched up a score of 153. This was Sarfaraz’s third century in the ongoing edition and 7th overall in Ranji Trophy. Interestingly, all his centuries have been 150+ scores. He has a massive tally of more than 700 runs in the 2021/22 season. In the previous edition, he had crossed the 900-run mark.
