J&K LG Manoj Sinha said that the terrorists are targeting Hindus in Kashmir to provoke security forces. He said militants are not even sparing girls and women now. “It is their desperation, that they are making such killings to provoke security forces,” he said. Sinha further said that the administration and security forces would do their work with promptness.
Terrorists have stepped up attack on Hindus living and working in Kashmir Valley. This week, they shot dead a government teacher – Rajni Bala – and a bank manager -Vijay Kumar – in Kulgam. Bala was from Jammu’s Samba but was posted in Kulgam and Kumar was from Rajasthan. A day later, the militants also targeted and shot dead a migrant worker from Bihar. They are targeting Kashmiri Pandits who have taken up government jobs under the PM’s package, and migrant workers from different states working in the Valley.
Security analysts believe that rise in the attack on Hindus is to show that the government is not in control of the situation and cannot provide security to Kashmir Pandits. The Centre has in the past claimed that normalcy has returned to the Valley, but recent attacks have sparked fears among the Kashmiri Pandits who now want to be shifted to safer places in Jammu.
Earlier this week, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a high-level meeting with Manoj Sinha, NSA Ajit Doval, Army chief Manoj Pande and RAW chief Samant Goel to review the security situation in Kashmir. According to reports, the government will shift Kashmiri Pandits to safer placed within the Valley, not in Jammu.
Earlier in the day, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal slammed the Centre for recent killings of Hindus and said that it needs to tell the people how it is going to handle the situation in Kashmir.
