‘Modi govt behaving worse than Congress’: AIADMK attacks ally BJP

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Thursday hit out at the ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre is behaving worse than Congress.
Calling the BJP anti-Tamil, AIADMK organisational secretary C Ponnaiyan said the alliance with the saffron party was merely an ‘electoral adjustment’ as its ideology is diametrically opposite to that of the AIADMK.
“The Present government (at the Centre) is behaving worse than Congress. Tamil Nadu should be given an exemption in language policy. Tamil Nadu will have a two-language policy. The state BJP unit should take up the matter in Delhi. You can grow in the state if you respect people’s sentiment,” said Ponnaiyan.
The AIADMK leader further alleged that the BJP is continuously ‘imposing’ Hindi despite AIADMK’s stiff opposition all along. “The imposition of Hindi is many times more than what it was during the Congress-led governments at the Centre,” he said.
Ponnaiyan, a former Minister during the previous AIADMK regimes, was part of the Cabinet led by both party founder M G Ramachandran and late leader J Jayalalithaa. He said the AIADMK is opposed to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for medical admissions.
The BJP, however, is ‘forcing’ the test on Tamil Nadu and this has led to a scenario of ‘students from northern states’, taking away a chunk of seats in medical colleges in the state, he alleged.
