The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed several in-charges for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections. While Narendra Singh Tomar has been appointed as in charge of the Rajya Sabha elections for Rajasthan, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will be overseeing Haryana, G Kishan Reddy has been appointed for Karnataka, and Ashwini Vaishnaw for Maharashtra.
voting for 57 seats of 15 seats of Rajya Sabha will take place on June 10. The contest in Rajasthan is speculated to be the most exciting one. In Rajasthan, the Congress party has fielded Gandhi loyalist Randeep Singh Surjewala, Pramod Tiwari, and Mukul Wasnik. Tiwari needs votes from all the three independent MLAs along with the MLAs of the Ashok Gehlot government. Gehlot has already expressed confidence and claimed that the Congress party will win all three seats. Congress has 108 MLAs in the Rajasthan Assembly, while the BJP has 71.
In Haryana, the Congress party has enough strength to elect Ajay Maken. Kartikeya Sharma, the son of former Congress leader Vinod Sharma is another candidate in the fray.
Congress, as well as BJP, have fielded extra candidates in Karnataka. In the southern state, where there are four berths, the BJP has fielded Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and actor Jaggesh. Congress, with its 69 MLAs is likely to get Jairam Ramesh elected. In Maharashtra, the three constituent parties of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are reportedly unhappy with Congress candidate – Imran Pratapgarhi. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Shiv Sena were reportedly of the view that the party should have fielded someone from the state.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Piyush Goyal, and senior leaders Anil Bonde and Dhananjay Mahadik as its candidates for the Rajya Sabha polls.
