Returning back to scoring ways before the playoff stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, run-machine Virat Kohli played a match-winning knock against Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) last outing. Former Bangalore captain Kohli will be raring to go when RCB square off against KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Eliminator of the IPL 2022 on Wednesday.
After stepping down as the captain of the RCB franchise, Kohli had embraced a lean patch in the 15th season of the cash-rich league. Kohli was on verge of capping off his worst-ever season as a batter before the batting icon regained some form and guided RCB to an impressive win over table-toppers Gujarat in their final league fixture. Known for smashing records across all formats, the RCB icon can spark a stunning turnaround by playing a blinder against Lucknow on Wednesday.
Speaking ahead of the mouthwatering clash between Bangalore and Lucknow, legendary Indian opener Virender Sehwag feels that the IPL playoffs are a great platform for Kohli to regain his top form. “If Kohli scores a century against LSG, who will say looking at his stats that he had a bad season? He will then end with 400-plus runs and that is considered as a good season. He has a great platform to excel as his team has reached the knockouts. Kohli can perform well and take the team forward,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.
The leading run-getter in the history of the IPL, RCB’s Kohli has scored 309 from 14 matches in the 15th edition of the world’s richest T20 league. After facing flak for his poor form in the IPL 2022, Kohli has improved his batting average to 23.77. Only skipper Faf du Plessis has scored more runs (443) for RCB than Kohli this season. Kohli-starrer RCB side will meet Rahul’s LSG at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday.
