The start of the IPL 2022 eliminator between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) is delayed due to the rain at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The players were out in the middle before the scheduled time for the toss but the rain droplets meant that the toss couldn’t take place. The ground staff is at work at Ede Gardens and the entire ground is covered.
The visuals on the television confirm that the rain isn’t heavy as the fans in the stands don’t have their umbrellas open. Still, there’s a delay and the match cannot start until it stops raining. There’s no reserve day for the eliminator. Hence, the BCCI will make every attempt to ensure that the match takes place. As the fans await the start of the crunch game, here’s a look at all the scenarios –
20-over game
The board will make every attempt to make sure that a 20-over game takes place and no overs will be lost if the eliminator kicks off by 9:40 PM. The delayed start will also mean that the match will end on May 26.
The overs will start getting reduced with every minute after 9:40 PM. The fans can witness a five-over game if the match starts by 11:56 PM. In that case as well, the match will end tomorrow.
A super over
In case even if a five-match thriller is also not possible, then we wil have a Super Over. The cut-off time to start a super over is 12:50 AM (May 26) IST.
What if the Super Over is also not possible?
In case the rain gets heavier and the match is completely washed out, then Lucknow Super Giants will make it to the playoffs as they finished at the 3rd spot in the points table. Royal Challengers Bangalore won 8 matches and finished at the 4th spot.
