Maybe he was told to change it: Ex-KKR opener opines on Shreyas Iyer’s U-turn on controversial CEO statement

After their victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) a few weeks back, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Shreyas Iyer stunned the cricketing world by revealing that the franchises CEO Venky Mysore is involved in team selection matters. Iyer’s statement was met with extreme reactions in the cricket fraternity as people were not impressed with club officials interfering in cricketing matters.
After the next game, Iyer made a U-turn on his remarks and claimed that the CEO’s role is to console players who are not playing. In the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL), KKR made a host of changes to their playing XI regularly.
Former Kolkata Knight Riders’ opener Aakash Chopra has opined on the statement and made a big claim saying that he believes Iyer was forced to change his statement. “Shreyas Iyer once said in a press conference that the KKR CEO is also involved in team selection. I think he got a rap on his knuckles and maybe he was told to change his statement.
He then clarified that he had meant that the CEO motivates players when they get dropped and consoles them, but he isn’t involved in the team selectionm,” said Chopra on his Youtube channel
He went on to add that during one of the matches Iyer seemed visibly disappointed with coach Brendon McCullum and suggested there were visible tensions in the camp. “But I am not sure about that because we saw in one game that he visibly looked upset while talking to Brendon McCullum after getting out against RR,” claimed the cricket-turned-commentator.
In IPL 2022, KKR ended up using a total of 21 players which was the second most in the league behind bottom-placed Mumbai Indians (22). The two-time champions finished 7th in the table with a tally of 12 points having won 6 out of their 14 games.
