Thanks Rohit: Virat Kohli’s old tweet goes viral after Mumbai Indians’ win over DC propels RCB into IPL playoffs

Courtesy of Mumbai Indians’ (MI) win over Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday evening (May 21), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) punched their ticket to the playoffs of IPL 2022 for the 3rd year in a row. The Faf du Plessis-led side’s chances of making it to the playoffs solely depended on MI.
A win for MI would have been enough for RCB while the Rishabh Pant-led side would have made it to playoffs had they emerged victorious. MI were already out of the competition and they took DC along with them. It was a sweet revenge for MI, who suffered the same fate at the hands of DC in 2018.
Some of the RCB’s players showed their gratitude to MI for the favour. An old tweet of former RCB skipper Virat Kohli is also going viral on social media. In the tweet, Kohli had thanked Rohit for wishing him on his 31st birthday. The social media users dug out that tweet after MI’s win and it’s now going viral on social media.
Playing their last game of the season, MI won the toss and chose to bowl first. Mumbai bowlers did the job to perfection and restricted DC to a score of 159/7. Jasprit Bumrah spearheaded the proceedings for his team and scalped 3 wickets for 25 runs.
MI got off to a forgettable start and lost the wicket of Rohit Sharma early. Ishan Kishan and Dewald Brevis did add 51 runs for the 2nd wicket to keep MI in the game but the five-time IPL champions continued to lose wickets.
Tim David, who is a former RCB player, proved to be the game-changer and scored crucial 34 off just 11 balls. Despite the win, MI finished at the last spot in the points table. They only managed 4 wins from 14 matches in the season.
