Since the success of films like Pushpa: The Rise, RRR and KGF: Chapter 2, comparisons are being drawn between the Hindi film industry and South cinema. Amid the debate, Bollywood star Ajay Devgn and Kannada superstar Kichcha Sudeepa recently had a ward of words on the Hindi language row.
Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has now weighed in on both, the Hindi vs South cinema debate and the ongoing language row. In a recent interview, the Prithviraj actor said that he hates it when people compare the two industries and stated that we should consider them one.
Talking about Bollywood’s dry spell after being pitted against South cinema, Akshay said, “I hope every film works, it is important for the Hindi film industry. I’m keeping my fingers crossed, as I don’t know what will happen, and this word pan-India, yeh meri samaj ke bahar hai.”
The actor went on to share his opinion on the discourse and added, “See, I don’t believe in this divide. I hate it when someone says, ‘South industry and North industry.’ We are all one industry. That’s what I believe.”
He said that the debate has to come to an end and people need to stop asking these questions to celebrities. The actor questioned, “Why can’t we call ourselves one industry, and why do we need to divide it by calling ‘North or Hindi’?”
“Phir woh language ki baat karenge, and then there will be a debate out of it. Hum sab ki language aachi hai. We all are talking in our mother tongue, and it’s beautiful. There is no need in making an issue out of it,” he added.
On the work front, Akshay is gearing up for the release of his period drama Prithviraj. The film, also starring Manushi Chillar, Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood is set to release on June 3 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
