IPL: Ravindra Jadeja set to remain with MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings for 2023 season

In some positive news for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) amid their last game of their forgettable 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign, Ravindra Jadeja is set to remain at the franchise for the 2023 edition.
Various media reports had indicated that Jadeja was not happy with how the mid-season captaincy change process was handled. Despite not being captain anymore, Jadeja will stay with the franchise as a player for the 2023 edition and has no plans to leave or ask for a release, according to a report in EspnCricinfo.
Ravindra Jadeja came into the 2022 IPL in the form of his life as he was putting up spectacular performances with bat and ball in all three formats of the game. In fact, in a Test match less than a month before the 2022 IPL, Jadeja scored a career-high score of 175 and took nine wickets across two innings vs Sri Lanka in Mohali.
The Chennai Super Kings decided to reward Jadeja with the captaincy. He became only the second person after MS Dhoni to lead the franchise on a permanent basis since the tournament’s inception. However, since then all that could go wrong has gone wrong for the star all-rounder.
CSK failed to hit their former glory as the defending champions lost their first four games of the season. After winning just two of their first eight games in the competition, the defending champions decided to swap their captaincy decision as Dhoni returned to lead the team.
Jadeja struggled with both bat and ball having scored just 116 runs and taken 5 wickets in 10 games. A rib injury suffered in the clash vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Pune earlier this month ended his campaign early after which he left the team’s bio-bubble.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni gave a major source of relief to fans ahead of their final fixture of the season vs RR by confirming his return in the 2023 season. “Definitely. It’s a simple reason: it will be unfair to not play in Chennai and say thank you [to the fans]. Mumbai is one place where, as a team and as an individual, I have got a lot of love and affection. But it wouldn’t be nice to the CSK fans,” said Dhoni at the toss vs RR a the Brabourne Stadium.
