‘All sides to exchange views on developments in Indo-Pacific, contemporary global issues’
According to MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, the PM is likely to have a bilateral meeting with Australian PM Scott Morrison.
“We attach a lot of importance to the Quad. We have been keen to showcase what the Quad can do together and what it stands for. We will discuss contemporary issues and other issues of importance,” Bagchi said.
Quad summit will provide opportunity for leaders to exchange views about developments in Indo-Pacific, contemporary global issues, the MEA said.
On China building a second bridge on Pangong Tso, the MEA spokesperson said that India is monitoring the situation.
We are monitoring the situation: MEA on 2nd Chinese bridge on Pangong Tso
“We have seen reports on this bridge or a second bridge. We are monitoring the situation. Of course, we always felt it was occupied. Talks on with the Chinese side,” Bagchi added.
China is constructing a second bridge in an area held by it around the strategically key Pangong Tso in eastern Ladakh and it would help the Chinese military to quickly mobilise its troops in the region.
Ever since tensions between India and China escalated, both sides have been busy strengthening their military infrastructure along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
India too has been constructing bridges, roads and tunnels in the border regions as part of overall efforts to enhance military preparedness.
OSINT analyst Damien Symon posted satellite images of the new construction on Twitter.
Symon, who uses the handle @detresfa_ said a “larger bridge” is being developed parallel to the first one, adding the likely aim of the construction is to “support larger/heavier movement” of the military over the lake.
