This is IPL, not BBL: Ex-KKR batter urges Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians to avoid sending Daniel Sams at No. 3

Already eliminated from the playoffs race this season, Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) will meet Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side in match No. 65 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians had confirmed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) premature exit from the world’s richest T20 league in their previous outing.
Mumbai bowled out Chennai Super Kings for 97 before chasing down the paltry total in 14.5 overs. MI pacer Daniel Sams, who triggered the batting collapse of the MS Dhoni-led side, was promoted to the No. 3 batting position by the Mumbai think tank against Chennai Super Kings. However, Sams’ promotion backfired immediately as the star pacer of the Mumbai Paltan only managed to score 1 off 6 balls.
Mumbai are expected to experiment with their playing XI on matchday 65 of the IPL 2022 at Wankhede. Previewing MI’s match against SRH on his YouTube channel, Chopra said that Sams’ promotion was beyond his understanding. Thus, the former Indian opener and full-time cricket pundit has urged Rohit’s Mumbai Indians to avoid sending Sams at No. 3
“With playoff qualification out of the question, Mumbai are trying various things. They even gave a chance to Tristan Stubbs. But sending Daniel Sams in at three was beyond my understanding. My suggestion to Mumbai is don’t send him at No. 3, this is IPL not BBL,” Chopra said.
Chopra, who played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL, has also shared his ‘wishlist’ for Mumbai Indians. The former Indian opener wants captain Rohit and wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan to pile up runs for the record-time IPL winners.
My wishlist for Mumbai is that Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan finally score good runs. Rohit hasn’t scored a fifty this season, so hopefully that happens here. Ishan Kishan was purchased for a huge sum, he is a gun player. He will also be expected to score. Tilak Varma has been batting really well. Hopefully, he continues his good run,” Chopra added.
