Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said India’s balanced approach to the ongoing Ukraine-Russia crisis was not opposed by the United States, in fact, many countries praised it.Speaking at an event in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, the Union minister said, “Amid the Ukraine-Russia conflict, the US’ stand was clear. Despite this, India decided to have a balanced approach. The US did not oppose it. In fact, many countries praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approach towards the issue.”
“I went for 2+2 dialogue with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. During the visit, we expected discussion over our balanced approach to the Ukraine-Russia crisis, but there was no opposition from the US,” Singh said.
The senior Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) leader said “India has a ‘Win-Win’ approach as we want good ties with everyone.”
Addressing the gathering, the minister also praised the digitization campaign initiated under the leadership of PM Modi citing the example of a Bihar beggar who uses a QR code to get the alms.
With the (digitization) campaign initiated under the leadership of PM Modi, today a beggar in Bihar is roaming using QR code hanging around his neck,” he said.
Singh further said that he never gives assurances during poll rallies. “Due to difference in words and deeds of politicians, people’s trust in Indian politics and politicians has lessened compared to before. Everyone who’s in politics, I request them to curb this mistrust,” he added.
Singh, who was in Lucknow on Saturday as well, addressed a workshop on the financial market organised by the Lucknow branch of the Central India Regional Council (CIRC) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
During the event, Singh noted that the disturbances and uncertainties caused due to COVID-19 reduced private consumption expenditures and said the Centre has initiated a number of steps to deal with these challenges, adding that the results are visible.
