Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar predicted a return to power for Congress in 2024 and asserted that party leader Rahul Gandhi will “rule the country”.
He further claimed that the ‘G23’, a group of Congress leaders demanding structural changes in the party, has gone and the entire party is united.
Following the conclusion of party’s ‘Nav Sankalp Chintan Shivir’ in Udaipur, Rajasthan, DK Shivakumar said, “Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will contest the election (2024). I think whatever the schedule has been already announced by the election authority, we are in the process and he (Rahul Gandhi) will rule the country.”
“We all are confident that Congress will come back under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership. That is the later stage, G23 has gone, the entire party is united, and we all are one (on G23 push for the parliamentary board),” he added.
Earlier today, Congress adopted Udaipur Declaration after the three-day ‘Nav Sankalp Chintan Shivir’ and in it, the party asserted that Indian nationalism is the core character of the party, while in contrast, the BJP’s “pseudo-nationalism” is centred on the hunger for power.
Based on the recommendations of the group that led the discussions on political issues at the conclave, the party stated that changing the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, taking away its full statehood, not holding elections, implementing an ‘erroneous delimitation’ and killing of thousands of innocent civilians, security forces and Kashmiri Pandits by militants were signs of ‘serious failure’ of the central government.
While the Congress has to strengthen its grassroots presence everywhere on the basis of its organisation, it is “committed to establish dialogue and contact with all like-minded parties to protect the spirit of nationalism and democracy and will keep open avenues for forging alliances as per the political circumstances”, the declaration said.
The party also accused the BJP-RSS of spreading communal divide in the country and said the Congress rejects the politics of garnering votes by targeting minorities, poor and the downtrodden.
