Rift at CSK? Former captain Ravindra Jadeja wasn’t pleased with process of captaincy change: Report

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had an Indian Premier League (IPL) season to forget so far. While the team’s on-field performance has remained below par, the off-field issues too have hogged the limelight. Before the start of the season, MS Dhoni made a big call and handed the team’s charge to Jadeja, who is CSK’s one of the longest-serving players.
Given his seniority and stature, Jadeja seemed to be an automatic pick. He is regular at the highest level and has done well for the Yellow Army. However, there was a captaincy change after 8 matches and Dhoni was back at the helm of affairs. Under Jadeja, CSK only managed 2 wins and incurred 6 defeats from 8 matches.
A few games after the captaincy change, Jadeja sat out of the fixture against Delhi Capitals due to an injury. And the rib issue has now ruled him out of the season. While there is nothing unusual in a player being ruled out of the season, a report has claimed that Jadeja wasn’t pleased with the process of captaincy change. His non-availability from the rest of the season due to an injury has added fuel to the fire.
The Indian Express has reported that Jadeja felt that the process of captaincy change lacked transparency. Speaking to the paper, Jadeja’s teammates also hinted at a discord.
But as per the franchise’s CEO, Kasi Viswanathan, Jadeja is in the scheme of things, confirming that he will stay with the Yellow Army going ahead.
“Social media, I absolutely do not follow anything. I have no knowledge of what is going on there. What I can tell you is that from the management side, there has been no problem and whatever is there on social media, I’m not aware. Jadeja firmly remains in the CSK’s scheme of things for the future, always,” he was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
Since the season is now over for Jadeja, an official word regarding his future with CSK will only be out when the teams will be asked to release players before IPL 2023 auction.
Jadeja was CSK’s first-choice pick before the IPL 2022 mega auction and was paid a sum of Rs 16 crore. MS Dhoni was their 2nd-choice retention. With 4 wins from 11 matches, CSK are reeling at the 9th spot and are on the cusp of elimination.
