Arvind Kejriwal rules out all tie-ups for 2024 polls as other Opposition leaders herald ‘huge alliance’ – Details

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal  ruled out the possibility of the Aam Aadmi Party entering into an alliance for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The remarks came even as other Opposition leaders held meetings and spoke about possibility of a ‘huge’ tie-up in the months to come.
“I do not know how to do politics. I don’t understand alliances of 10 and 20 parties to defeat anyone. I don’t want to defeat anyone, I want the country to win. I will only enter into an alliance with 130 crore people of the country to make India number one in the world,” the CM said during an event in Nagpur on Sunday.
Insisting that his party’s focus was not on the 2024 Lok Sabha polls but on working for the country, the AAP convenor added that the only tie-up his party was interested in was with 130 crore Indians. He also countered the oft-levelled charge of indulging in freebie politics and accused a “huge party” of vociferously supporting hooliganism, engineering riots, and taking out welcome processions for rapists.
“If you want hooliganism and riots you can go with them. But if you want to progress, schools and hospitals you can come with me. Let us ally with 130 crore common people,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party national president Om Prakash Rajbhar on Sunday said the Opposition parties would come together and form a huge alliance to defeat the BJP-led grouping in 2024. He said that he had recently met Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena chief and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.
While it remains uncertain whether the Congress would be a part of any such alliance, senior party leaders have repeatedly insisted that such a grouping would only be successful with the its involvement.
“If Congress wants we all can fight (2024 general elections) together. Don’t be aggressive for now, be positive…all political polities that want to fight BJP should walk together. Congress is losing their credibility, can’t depend on Congress,” Mamata Banerjee had said after the BJP won four state assembly polls in March.
