In their first season under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, Kolkata Knight Riders (IPL) have had a season to forget as they sit on the 8th spot in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) points table. The two-time champions made a promising start to the season by winning three of their first four games but since then have lost five games in a row.
On Monday, they will enter the Wankhede Stadium to play against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in a virtual do-or-die encounter. The Iyer-led franchise will need to win each of their remaining games to have any hopes of making it to playoffs.
Ahead of tonight’s must-win clash vs RR, KKR’s star all-rounder Andre Russell shared a special message for fans calling the remaining matches as ‘five finals.’ He further appreciated them for supporting them throughout the tournament and called them ‘true fans’ for not giving up on the team during their bad times.
“It’s not the position that we really wanted to be in at this moment. I think you guys have been the loyal fans that any franchise would really want. And I think in times like these we all know who our fans are,” said Russell in a video posted of the official KKR Twitter account.
“I really really appreciate the presence and I am saying this on behalf of everyone. You guys have been amazing and I’m still seeing the purple and still seeing the gold. Keep supporting. We’re going to be fighting to the end and taking these five finals game by game,” he added.
On the work front, Russell has been in fine form with both bat and ball. He has 227 runs to his name at a stunning average and strike-rate of 37.83 and 175.97 respectively. With the ball, he has 11 scalps to his name in 9 matches.
